Snoring can be a big problem in building a long relationship with your wife.  If you are a snorer and your wife is having problem in sleeping for that loud noise, then you should cure snore immediately. Or, sooner or later it will create problems and make your family life more complex.

There is a variety of snoring appliances available in the market to stop snoring. The cause of snoring varies from person to person and each snoring appliance is made to treat those different causes of snoring. First it would be wise to determine the cause of your snoring so that you can choose the perfect snoring appliance for you.

We can categorize the snoring appliances in different categories. Here, I will try to give you a short description of those categories so that you can choose the right one for you.

Snoring appliances are worn inside of the mouth and works on the jaw, tongue or palate.

Oral appliances

These appliances are designed to keep the mouth shut, maintain the jaw in a forward position and prevent the tongue to fall backward. So, the air passage does not get congested and the snoring stops. These are normally used when other easy to use devices have failed. Normally a dentist made custom fitted oral appliance is good for a snorer.

Tongue retaining appliance

These are for snorers who don’t want to sleep in their side. These tongue retaining appliances holds the tongue forward by using suction method for a few hours,  so that, the tongue does not block the air passage while sleeping . These are undoubtedly one of the most uncomfortable devices made for snore cure.

Thornton Adjustable Positioners (TAP)

Taps created in 1990’s are considered to be one of the great anti snoring appliances. A snorer can make adjustments to the device something that is not available in most of the snoring devices. Taps usually holds the jaw intact in a forward position much like a mouth guard. So, the jaw cannot fall back during sleep and block the air way.

Mandibular Advancement Appliances (MAA)

These are similar to the TAPs and hold the jaw intact and prevent the tongue from falling backward. There are a lot of MAAs available in the market and you also can make a custom one for you. The price of MAAs is higher than most of the appliances.

Palate Lifters

These are rather new appliances to prevent snoring. The mechanism is to expand the palates and thus a large airway and low vibration. Whether these are safe or not is still a question as more research is necessary to prove its potentials.

A lot of options are available to stop snoring. Consult your doctor and choose the best one for you.
